Melbourne In A Day - Top 5 Things To Do

Melbourne is the capital of Victoria, and it’s a fantastic city to visit on your Australian trip. Known as the cultural capital of Australia, the city has so much to offer even the most seasoned traveller. Whether you’re just laying over or staying a little bit longer, here is a little itinerary I’ve put together of my favourite things to do in Melbourne in just one day:
1. Take a free walking tour – In my opinion, this is the best way to see the city. You’ll get to experience the Yarra River, stop by the historical Flinders Street Station and explore the famous graffitied alleyways that crisscross the centre of town.
2. Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens – A stunning place to go for a tranquil walk away from the crowds. The gardens are beautifully maintained and home to many native plant species.
3. Shrine of Remembrance – If you love history, definitely go and see this war memorial. There is also a gorgeous view of the city from the top of the steps.
4. Eureka Tower – As the second tallest building in the city, you’ll want to visit the Eureka Tower if you love scenery. Just be mindful that there is an entry cost.
5. Catch a show – Melbourne is known for it’s theatre and has a wide variety of shows to choose from. MTC is a great option to see Australian works and The Malthouse is perfect if you like a laidback atmosphere. The city also boasts a range of independent theatres including La Mama, Red Stitch and Gasworks. You’re sure to find something you’ll love!
