A ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, intended to facilitate war-ending negotiations, has been undermined by ongoing hostilities since its initiation on April 8. The U.S. has implemented a naval blockade and mine-clearing operations, while Iran has retaliated with attacks on commercial and military vessels.
- Following the ceasefire announcement, the U.S. deployed warships through the Strait of Hormuz and commenced mine clearance. A significant development was the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and coastal regions, which has effectively halted Iran's oil exports, thereby exerting considerable financial pressure on the Iranian regime.
- In response to the blockade, Iran has demanded its cessation. The Iranian military has engaged in hostilities, attacking commercial vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz. These actions are intended to apply pressure on the U.S. and its allies in the Gulf. Iran has also conducted attacks on neighboring countries and attempted to plant additional sea mines.
